Grooming project

The aim of the project "Recognition and prevention of sexual grooming in youth work" was to strengthen the skills of the youth workers in Finland. The project stands against the sexual grooming and sexual abuse of children and young people.

According to a survey that Koordinaatti carried out, youth workers and volunteers working with young people need training, methods, materials and information about sexual grooming, sexual harassment and sexual abuse that take place online and offline.

“ How can we start talking about the issue with young people? How can we recognize the ones at risk and help and support them? “

Together with the project partners, the goals of the project will be met. Koordinaatti is providing training events, webinars and podcasts, publishing a manual and informing about the existing materials for the youth workers to support their daily work. Providing accurate information and having courage to talk about somewhat difficult issues with young people is very much needed.

Cooperation with different organisations that possess knowledge of the theme is vital for the project to be successful. Koordinaatti has expert organisations and two cities working with them in the project.

Koordinaatti is one of the national centres of expertise in Finland. Ministry of Education and Culture granted a state subsidy to Koordinaatti for a national project that started in May 2019 and will last until the end of April 2020.
